About

I am a freelance writer, avid reader and Virginia Woolfophile in San Diego, California.

My hundred-plus creative nonfiction / personal essays have appeared in more than eighty print and online literary journals. Most are listed and linked in my “Published Work.” “Jesus Saves, I Don’t” was cited among the Notable Essays in Best American Essays in 2019, and “My Quarrel with Grieving” was a notable in 2016.

Several works have been included in anthologies, and I contributed a chapter to a book, Writing after Retirement (Rowman & Littlefield, 2014): “A Muse of One’s Own: Finding Inspiration for Your Writing Life.”

I have researched and written about the life and work of Virginia Woolf, including two monographs in the Bloomsbury Heritage Series published by Cecil Woolf Publishers, London: “Beyond the Icon: Virginia Woolf in Contemporary Fiction” in 2010 and “Virginia Woolf as Memoirist” in 2014. Articles and reviews appear in publications of the International Virginia Woolf Society and the Virginia Woolf Society of Great Britain. I’m also a regular contributor to Blogging Woolf.
